Software links
Apart from my operating system, almost all the software I use is freeware—some open source.
And while one hopes to move on to an open source operating system, I am—despite being an IT writer—a bit technologically challenged, and need the support of Windows or Mac OS. Windows wins because of my weakness for gaming, though personally I prefer the Mac platform.
The following are what I use for general computing:
- Office suite: Open Office
- Text editor: Notepad++
- Web browsers: Opera, Firefox
- E-mail client: Thunderbird
- Firewall: Zone Alarm
- Anti-virus: Avast
- Instant messaging: Pidgin, Google Talk
- Web mail: Yahoo, Gmail
