What have I been up to?

Honestly, I don’t live such a boring life that I should have had nothing to write about in almost a month. Yet I have precisely nothing to write about! Of course, if George W. Bush is to be believed, I’m busy eating too much and driving up global food prices, so maybe that explains it all.

Anyway, on a lighter note, here’s what I’ve been busy on…

Work

For a change, I’m not complaining about work overwhelming me. For the first time in about 10 years I have no pressing copy-editing deadlines, and am loving it! On a not-so-good note, I did a less than acceptable job on one assignment recently, which caused my rate to be downgraded retrospectively. Very embarrassing.

Apart from other things, am currently working on finishing The Timeless Land. Almost there! I had a rejection from a publisher too recently, but that’s all right. I wasn’t really ready with that story, and I’m sure it’s time will come!

Reading

I finished Break No Bones by Kathy Reichs. It was one a whodunit series featuring a forensic anthropologist called Temperance Brennan. The TV series Bones is based on this, and the whole thing loosely based on the life and times of Kathy Reichs, who is executive producer of the series and writer of the books. Well, it was a gripping story, but the writing left much to be desired. Reichs is far better at producing!

Now I have moved on to Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. This is, of course, Gaiman of the Sandman comics fame. Neverwhere is wholly entertaining. Gaiman’s narrative style and humour (of course, he’s Brit, what do you expect?!) is delectable. I’m so glad I took a gamble on this book. (By the way, Gaiman is one of the instructors in this years Clarion SFF Writers’ Workshop. So jealous!)

TV

The only TV series I watch regularly is Bones (Wednesday, 10 p.m., Star World). I’m so glad the series is different from the book. There is no Booth in the books, hence no Bones/Booth UST! In fact, she isn’t even called “Bones” in the books. Bah.

I am now the proud owner of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season one. There are only 12 epiosides, and I am three down. I am also watching Blackadder Goes Forth (2 episodes left). I have also been rewatching Doctor Who, Ninth Doctor, and have the last episode left. As much as I want to watch it, I am not sure I can take the Doc regenerating and CJH being abandoned like that! Yes, I’m being a total baby about it…

  1. Don’t forget praising Niklas! You did that too!

  2. Oh right… I have been playing with Winterwoods too.

  3. *more praising Niklas* Winterwoods has got fanciness. And I didn’t even get paid to say that! 😉

You’re reading more than me at this point, Payal. 🙁 Um, I am glad to hear you like Neil Gaiman.

  4. It’s easy to produce stuff when you come up with concepts like the ‘Angelator’. Does it exist in the books?

  5. Nope. The books are very different. The whole character of Bones (she’s not even called Bones!) is different; there’s no Booth, no Zack, no Hodgins, and no Angela…

In the books she does seem to be stringing two men along, though, but without Booth to get jealous over that, it’s no fun!

  6. So should or should I not read Kathy Reichs? Though it would be weird to think of Brennan without her fantastic team, not to mention Booth!

Btw, have you read Gaiman’s American Gods? If you haven’t, do so immediately. I recently read it, and LOVED it. And WHERE did you find Buffy Season 1? Been dying to locate all seasons, but they’re just nowhere to be found!

  7. Don’t bother with Kathy Reichs. It’s much more fun to watch on TV.

Will look out for “American Gods”. Oh, and just mailed you, so will not repeat!
