Two days into the new year, yet everything feels pretty much same old. Funny thing about new years — you expect everything to magically change around you. You’d think after experiencing over 30 new years one would have learnt better.
Anyhow, on a brighter note, it is certainly a relief to see the back of 2007, the year that was the scourge of us ’76-ers, especially on a personal level. For me, it started and ended with my doubting I’d ever see either of my parents again. But all’s well that ends well, I suppose, and I shall certainly heed the two hard lessons 2007 taught me:
- No matter how bad things are, find something to be happy about. For things can always get worse.
- Hope is not always a good thing
Yeah, how cynical!
While I’ve never been one for new year resolutions — in any case, my real new year begins 24 days after the calendar year, of course — I made a list of things I’d like to achieve in 2008:
- Plan and execute my Grand Trip.
- Buy a new computer.
- Finish writing The Timeless Land and at least make considerable progress on another book.
- Do my taxes before March 31 (ack!).
- Do more crochet.
- Find time for more gaming.
- Ease myself out of copy-editing and attempt to become more of a real writer.
- Redesign my website(s).
- Learn JavaScript and/or PHP properly.
- Attempt to develope a better design sense.
- Get organized by making lists like this one.
So, here’s to another new year — happy or not, here I come!

Those are excellent able-to-be-achieved goals.
You seem pretty far along learning Java and PHP though, to me! At least you know a good bit! I also loved reading vii (for slightly selfish reasons!). 😉
I agree with you about hope, by the way.
😉 I thought no. i might interested you most.
😈 I was holding in my interest.
Is (ix) a hint for me to return your book? 😈
And yes, good riddance to 2007!
Well, no!
And your comment clearly shows you have not even read the cover of the book and have no idea what it’s about! 👿
Yeah I know, I was kinda hoping you would not notice that… but then who was I kidding!
