Hello, 2008

Two days into the new year, yet everything feels pretty much same old. Funny thing about new years — you expect everything to magically change around you. You’d think after experiencing over 30 new years one would have learnt better.

Anyhow, on a brighter note, it is certainly a relief to see the back of 2007, the year that was the scourge of us ’76-ers, especially on a personal level. For me, it started and ended with my doubting I’d ever see either of my parents again. But all’s well that ends well, I suppose, and I shall certainly heed the two hard lessons 2007 taught me:

1. No matter how bad things are, find something to be happy about. For things can always get worse.
2. Hope is not always a good thing

Yeah, how cynical!

While I’ve never been one for new year resolutions — in any case, my real new year begins 24 days after the calendar year, of course — I made a list of things I’d like to achieve in 2008:

1. Plan and execute my Grand Trip.
2. Buy a new computer.
3. Finish writing The Timeless Land and at least make considerable progress on another book.
4. Do my taxes before March 31 (ack!).
5. Do more crochet.
6. Find time for more gaming.
7. Ease myself out of copy-editing and attempt to become more of a real writer.
8. Redesign my website(s).
9. Learn JavaScript and/or PHP properly.
10. Attempt to develope a better design sense.
11. Get organized by making lists like this one.

So, here’s to another new year — happy or not, here I come!
