Microsoft embraces Word Press

Guess who’s going the Word Press way? No, your eyes don’t deceive — Microsoft has decided to abandon its homemade blogging platform for Windows Live Space and is going to use Word Press instead.

To welcome Windows Live Space bloggers to WP, a simple migration service has been put together to allow bloggers to transfer all their posts, comments, and photos to WordPress.com. Windows Live bloggers have six months to make the shift.

Dharmesh Mehta writing at the Windows Blog has this to say:

As we looked at customers’ blogging needs and what different companies were providing, we were particularly interested in what WordPress.com is doing. They have a host of impressive capabilities – from a scalable platform and leading spam protection, to great personalization and customization. WordPress powers over 8.5% of the web, is used on over 26 million sites, and WordPress.com is seen by over 250 million people every month…. So rather than having Windows Live invest in a competing blogging service, we decided the best thing we could do for our customers was to give them a great blogging solution through WordPress.com.

Amen to that. Let the march of WP continue!

  1. That is really surprising seeing as php isn’t Microsoft’s thing. It’s nice of them though…but also a bit sad. I think more diversity would be nice.
