What’s up Doc?

Niklas pointed out to me the other day that I hadn’t updated in a while. Well, guilty on that count, but I have been feeling strangely blog-dry lately. Anyhow, since “writing” seems to be the flavour of the season right now, here’s a little look into what I’ve been working on.

  1. Kale’s Folly (working title): You could technically call this book four of the Halvard series. It’s four years since the events in The Timeless Land, and… oooh! something’s happening.
  2. Kinnel’s Prison/Azure Conclusion: Kinnel’s Prison was a short story I did based on an idea I had for a novel. I am currently working on fleshing the whole thing out. I have the basic story, all of the characters detailed out, the setting ready, but there are key missing bits.
  3. Azure Conclusion/WiRE: No, it’s not a typo. I haven’t decided if I want to use the Azure Conclusion concept in Kinnel’s Prison or keep it for WiRE. I can’t say anything more about WiRE except that I really love the idea. I even have the characters, but they have no names, so they’re a bit like stick figures at the moment.
  4. Kris and I (working title): This is going to be my first attempt at humour, if it comes off. I hope to work on this during NaNoWriMo 2008.

However, when all is said and done, if even one out all these ever gets completed, I will be happy!

  1. Well, since you did post after Niklas said you should, I guess I could forgive you for not using the much cooler topic he suggested( Regular Expressions in OpenOffice.org Writer). 😛

  2. Ah well, lots of very interesting sounding stuff in the pipeline. Kale’s Folly is something I’d like to look forward to, though I most love the title ‘Azure Conclusion’.

Hadn’t heard of NaNoWriMo. Just saw the website, but what exactly is it?

I’m pretty sure you’ll complete all of them, not just one. I sure hope so. Will give me more good things to read! 🙂

  3. Would be really looking forward to some of this stuff. Do write faster, will you? 😛

@ Swetank – NaNoWriMo is the best way to write a novel. You have to write and submit a full length novel and you’re just given the month of november to do it in. 🙂

  4. And yes, I would most definitely like to hear what you’ve got to say about regex in OO.

  5. NaNoWriMo is about writing a short novel with 50000 words during November. They explain it themselves rather nicely:

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.
Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

  6. I have not forgotten about Aizel. I am still waiting on Aizel.

    Aizel.

    AIZEL!

  7. *pretends to not see the bits about regex and OpenOffice…*

@Marie: Thanks for the reminder; will put in Aizel in Kale’s Folly! But first I have to check I didn’t kill him in Timeless Land… *evil*

I’m also curious about what everyone else is writing. I know Swetank is writing, as are Niklas and Marie. Vinod, are you working on something too?

  8. @Vinod & Niklas
Thanks guys. Helpful comments. Will check out further details on the website and get back to you in case I want more info. 🙂

  9. I’m looking forward to these, but I haven’t heard much about the middle two! How long have you been interested in doing them?

Regex, regex? *brings it up again in all innocence*

The thing with NaNoWriMo is that you’re supposed to start with a story you’ve never written anything down about up until that point, except maybe notes. But, not real writing anyway. It is a large undertaking, but you’re not supposed to do *any* editing during. It is fun if you love to torture yourself. 😈

*is trying it again this year* 👿

  10. I think I should get a preview of Aizel in book three.
